She was rushed to an intensive care unit just days before Christmas and died surrounded by family at the age of 60.
The actress reached international superstar status for her portrayal of feisty Princess Leia in 1977 sci-fi classic Star Wars alongside Hollywood hunk Harrison Ford.
But before her iconic turn as the witty princess she was an unknown aspiring actress waiting for a big break.
Now – after her death – fans are sharing the audition tape that cemented her place in film history.
In the above video Carrie can be seen entering a reading room to perform a screen test with future co-star Harrison Ford.
Carrie – who was only 20-years-old at the time – shows calm, cool and authenticity as she delivers the lines to Harrison.
The clip has racked up 820,000 hits and fans have lavished the actress with love and thanks for her portrayal of the iconic princess.
