Drivers have been warned that roads across Britain will be cloaked in a lethal combination of ice and fog.
A 67-year-old man was killed today when his Land Rover Freelander skidded off an icy road and crashed into a tree near Lechlade, Glos.
The death followed a huge pile-up in freezing fog on the A40 in Oxfordshire on Wednesday in which a woman died and nearly 20 were injured, two seriously.
“We have got the worst possible conditions really, of fog and icy roads, and that can be lethal”
Ian Crowder, AA spokesperson
Sub-zero temperatures swept across the UK again last night.
AA spokesman Ian Crowder said: “We have got the worst possible conditions really, of fog and icy roads, and that can be lethal.
Issued by West Yorkshire Police of a taxi over turned in the snow in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, after a cold snap hit parts of the United Kingdom over night.
“I think the message is extreme caution and to prepare for the worst and make sure all windows are clear.”
The fog should start to lift today but rain will batter parts during the weekend’s new year celebrations, and it is set to stay cold.
