The arrival of Comet 45P could be a sign of chaos to come in the New Year, according to Christian conspiracy theorists.
Wild and bizarre claims suggest that the massive space rock could break apart as it zooms around the Sun.
They fear the comet will split into a number of lethal rocks that slam into the Earth and cause catastrophic earthquakes.
“We have to take this seriously”
Others claim the comet is an omen which could herald the second coming of Jesus Christ in the year to come.
Pastor Paul Begley, who boasts 166,000 YouTube subscribers, said: “Prophetic sign? Possibly”.
He quoted the following passage from The Bible: “There will be signs in the Sun and Moon and stars and on the Earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves.
“Men’s hearts will faint them for fear for looking after those things which are coming upon the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.”
“We have to take this seriously,” Begley added.
He went on to discuss rumours that the comet would split and pelt space rocks into the Earth and suggested he’d received a divine tip-off.
“I wouldn’t be as concerned about it had the Lord not given me word that 2017 was going to be an absolute year of chaos,” he added.
“We’re going to have to wait to see what this all means.”
There are Millions of Asteroids in the solar system, usually found in the Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, however those in that pass the Earth are called Near-Earth objects
It is not just Begley, though.
Another channel called BPEarthWatch – with over 260,000 subscribers – suggested the comet will bring on the second coming of Jesus.
It claimed the planet would be hit by an “incoming proton burst” with deadly consequences.
NASA scientists aren’t quite so worried…
“On New Year’s Eve, the comet and the crescent moon will rendezvous to say farewell to 2016,” a statement read.
