A young woman has died after being shot through the eye in an “unfathomable” accident.
Sarah Bonner, 24, was visiting friends and family in Anderson, South Carolina, when the incident happened.
While shooting at Skip-J rifle range, a bullet was fired which went through Sarah’s eye and lodged in her brain.
She was on life support for several days but died on Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
It is unclear whose gun fired the fatal shot, but Sarah’s death is currently being treated as accidental.
A coroner said authorities are examining the bullet to match it to a gun.
Sarah’s family said she had died “doing what she always loved.”
In a statement on a fundraising page they wrote: “There is no way to explain exactly what happened because we will never know, it is literally just an unfathomable accident that no one will be able to ever explain.”
Sarah was described as “a caring, kind hearted, amazing and outgoing person full of life and love for everyone. “
A GoFundMe page has already raised more than the $10,000 target for a memorial.
