A 33-year-old man died Thursday in a single-vehicle collision in the McLean area, Fairfax County police said.
Authorities believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The man, identified by police as Chad Cheatham of McLean, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:30 p.m. accident.
Police said Cheatham was driving a 2003 Mazda 6 westbound on Lewinsville Road when his car left the road and hit a utility pole head-on.
The collision caused live wires to wrap around Cheatham’s car and authorities to shut down the intersection of Lewinsville Road and Lancia Drive.
Police added that the investigation is ongoing to “determine if any other circumstances” contributed to the crash.
